UK Immigration Officer Convicted in Chinese Intelligence “Shadow Policing” Case at Heathrow

The British immigration officer, Chi Leung “Peter” Wai (40), and his handler, Chung Biu “Bill” Yuen (65), were recently convicted of aiding Chinese intelligence agents in conducting what can be described as a “shadow policing operation” within the UK. Through his privileged access to the Home Office’s database at Heathrow Airport, Wai monitored the movements of Hong Kong dissidents and pro-democracy advocates, using the term “cockroaches” to refer to them in his messages. Meanwhile, Yuen, who had worked as a policeman in Hong Kong before taking up his position at the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, acted as the link between the Chinese authorities and the duo. Prominent personalities, such as Nathan Law and Sir Iain Duncan Smith, were also targets of the operation.
